There's troubling news out of Washington, D.C., late Tuesday afternoon. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has reportedly been rushed to the hospital by ambulance. 

Very little is known of the circumstances at this time. CNN has a brief report on the situation.

Per CNN's Priscilla Alvarez: 

We're still trying to gather details. What we know so far is that the Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, was transported by ambulance on Tuesday to a hospital in Washington, D.C. 

One source telling our colleague Holmes Lybrand that she has been conscious at the hospital and has spoken to her security detail. 

We have also reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for any comment or additional details about what transpired here. 

So, again, so far, we know only that she was transported to a D.C.-area hospital by ambulance today.

The 53-year-old South Dakota native has been front and center recently championing the administration's efforts to enforce immigration laws. Last week, she was delivering remarks at a press conference in Los Angeles when Democrat Senator Alex Padilla (CA) attempted to crash the conference and create a scene.

Per CBS News' Jennifer Jacobs, reports are that Noem had an allergic reaction and is recovering.
